Janaki Dave is an incoming doctoral student at The Ohio State University, pursuing her PhD in Human Nutrition. She most recently graduated with her Master of Science (M.S.) in Human Nutrition in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University. She is engaged in research under the mentorship of Dr. Irene Hatsu, PhD., RD. She earned her B.S. at Indiana University – Purdue University, Indianapolis (IUPUI) in neuroscience along with minors in philanthropic studies and biology. During her undergraduate years, she worked as a First-Year Seminar Student Coordinator to create training programs for mentors working with first-year students as they acclimated to a new college campus. She also served in numerous roles in the Women of Science Scholars Program and Norman Brown Diversity and Leadership Scholars Program. As Director of Monetary Partnerships (2022) and Director of Stewardship (2023) while fundraising for pediatric research at Jagathon: IUI’s Dance Marathon raising funds for Indianapolis’s Riley Hospital for Children she gained further leadership experience. She also gained research experience with how specific genes influenced Parkinson’s disease-like behaviors in C. elegans. Her current research interests include examining nutritional status among vulnerable populations such as homeless young adult mothers who use substances and their young children. She recently participated in the 2025 Russel Klein Symposium hosted by the Graduate Society of Nutritional Sciences at The Ohio State University with her research on how maternal substance use of homeless young mothers impacts their young children’s nutrition status.
