Meaghan is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto, and the Clinical Nutrition and Risk Factor Modification Centre at St. Michael’s Hospital, under the mentorship of Dr. John Sievenpiper.
Her research investigates relationships between diet and chronic disease through clinical trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and epidemiology. Through the CIHR-MSFSS award, Meaghan was sponsored to visit the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, as a Guest Researcher to undertake part of her Ph.D. research investigating the Portfolio Diet and its associated cardiovascular benefits within the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) program.
Meaghan is passionate about translating her research into practical applications for patients and healthcare providers, with an interest in using digital health applications as a medium for knowledge transfer. Her Ph.D. work on the Portfolio Diet and the PortfolioDiet.app, reflects this interest. Meaghan was an original member of the team who initiated the developed the Portfoliodiet.app, a patient engagement and educational tool for translating the Portfolio Diet into clinical practice for cardiovascular disease prevention and management.
Prior to her Ph.D., Meaghan worked as a project manager at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Dr. David Jenkins for four years (2016-2020), investigating low glycemic index and other dietary patterns and disease prevention and management. She was also Clinical Coordinator on the CIHR-funded STOP Sugars NOW Trial at St. Michael’s Hospital (2019-2020), supervised by Dr. John Sievenpiper. She completed her M.Sc. at the University of Guelph under the mentorship of Drs. Lindsay Robinson and Amanda Wright and her B.Sc. thesis under the mentorship of Dr. Alison Duncan.
Meaghan will continue her research as a Banting Postdoctoral Fellow with Dr. Frank Hu at the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health in 2025, furthering part of her Ph.D. work conducted at the CDC.
