Dr. Lalita Kaul is a Professor at Howard University College of Medicine, Department of Community and Family Medicine. In addition to teaching medical students, Dr. Kaul has also been active in teaching Family Medicine residents as it applies to everyday practice in medicine. Dr. Kaul has spoken on several grand rounds and participates actively in patient care activities. As is documented in her curriculum vitae, Dr. Kaul is a member of several scientific societies and has lectured extensively at various universities around the United States and in international forums. She has received several grants for nutritional studies. Some of these include Prostate Cancer and Nutrition, Esophagus Cancer and Nutrition.
She has also conducted workshops on obesity and arranged symposiums for health professionals. Dr. Kaul was the National Spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) for 6 years. News media have interviewed her about various diets and nutritional issues, including The Washington Post and The Washington Times. Dr. Kaul has been a senior author in many publications. She has previously worked in the White House Health Care Information Center and Presidential Correspondence Analysis. She pioneered incorporating nutrition education in the medical curriculum at Howard University and developed a program for primary care physicians.
At present, she has two programs on Fox 5 Plus once a month. These include Nutrition and Health, and Views and Cues. Before COVID-19, schools and various organizations invited her to give lectures on nutrition. In addition, she worked with the DC Correction Systems to improve the diet of the inmates.
Dr. Kaul is the senior author of over 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and over 30 abstracts, including two books and a manual. She is a licensed Nutritionist in DC and Maryland.
Dr. Kaul has received several Honors and Awards. These include the Howard University Lifetime Achievement Award, the Kaiser Permanente Best Teaching Award from the College of Medicine, Howard University, the European Women Empowerment Award, the Hind Ratan Award for Service (Jewel of India), and the South Asian Women Award. She also received platinum sponsorship of Global Television Networks/Broadcast on Fox 5 plus, WDCA, Washington, DC.
