(P11-032-25) Efficacy of a Functional Food Supplement With Grape, Soy Protein, and Edamame as an Adjuvant Treatment in the Management of Patients With COVID-19
RAAS Nutritionals Santa Susana, California, United States
Objectives: To prove the efficacy of a functional food supplement containing grape product, soy protein concentrate, organic edamame powder, and soy isoflavones in the management of patients with COVID-19.
Methods: This is the report of a prospective randomized, controlled clinical trial carried out in the USA (100 patients, open label trial) and in Turkey (71 patients, 47 experimental, 24 controls). All patients from both groups were diagnosed and treated according to the official guidelines. All patients signed an informed consent form and were given 10 capsules a day of 500 mg of a proprietary blend of grape product, soy protein concentrate, edamame powder and soy isoflavones 90 days in addition to their standard treatments. In the USA trial, every patient was his or her own control.
Results: Significant improvement of SpO2 levels (p=.027) at day 5, reduction of D-dimer at day 15 (p=.021) and day 30 (p=.05), severity of cough (p=0.025), blood glucose reduction (p=.031) at day 15 and LDL cholesterol reduction at day 5 (p=.016), all in the experimental group in the Turkish trial. Also non-significant reductions in CRP and viral load. In the USA trial, a total of 27 COVID-19 patients had a reduction of the COVID-19 viral load, from as high as 1.1. billion copies down to negative or “not detected”.
Conclusions: The functional food supplement tested helped satisfactorily in the metabolic control of patients with COVID-19.
