The ‘omics era is here! The comprehensive evaluation of almost all molecules within a tissue or biospecimen, such as that provided by metabolomic and proteomic assays, is now widely available from both commercial and academic labs. These technologies provide rich information on both metabolic health, and on factors that can influence metabolic health such as dietary intake. Therefore, it is not surprising that increasing numbers of cohort studies with nutritional information on participants are measuring these data – sometimes years, or decades, after the initial data collection time point. How can these data be integrated into our current nutrition epidemiology investigations? Should they be integrated? Come and ask our expert panel as we call together the Nutrition Epidemiology GEM to discuss together: What are the promises and pitfalls of large-scale metabolomic and proteomic data in studies seeking to understand who is eating what foods, and how dietary intake influences health.
