Mike's research interests as a grad student at Wayne State university and as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania has involved the influence of dietary manipulation on chronic diseases including obesity, metabolic disorders, and atherosclerosis with rodent models. After completeing his training, Mike took a scientist position at Research Diets, Inc. formulating custom diets for animal models. In addition to formulating diets for research around the world, Mike has lead research on the effect of various laboratory animal diets (i.e. both grain-based and purified diets) and manipulations of diet, including fiber, on metabolism, gut health, and toxicology. He has served as a reviewer on grant panels for the USDA (NIFA), reviewed manuscripts for various peer reviewed journals and book chapters, and published reviews on the importance of choosing proper laboratory animal diets in research studies. Mike also enjoys the opportunity to speak with researchers about laboratory animal diets at various conferences around the world.
