Postdoctoral Fellow
National Institute of Child Health and Human Development
Bethesda, Maryland, United States
Received a Ph.D. in Nutrition Sciences at Florida International University (FIU). Doctoral training was focused on exploring the association between hydration, body fat percentage, lean mass, and bone mass in children and adolescents (10-20 years). Dr. Clayton is currently a third-year Postdoctoral Fellow in the Epidemiology Branch at NICHD developing new skills and learning advanced methods in nutrition epidemiology using data from established cohorts. Dr. Clayton has focused on examining early nutritional determinants of childhood health specific to early infant feeding practices and childhood growth and dietary patterns in later childhood under the mentorship of Dr. Edwina Yeung. Furthermore, she has taken on collaborative work with a multidisciplinary team, including clinicians and biostatisticians, to evaluate how maternal dietary patterns may influence in-utero fetal growth in the NICHD Fetal Growth-Singletons cohort under the mentorship of Dr. Jagteshwar Grewal. Dr. Clayton is currently collaborating and receiving additional mentorship from Dr. Bizu Gelaye to examine maternal sleep patterns and adverse birth outcomes to understand the mechanisms underpinning the complex interplay between diet, mental health, and metabolic health in mothers and their children. This current work has been recently supported by an NICHD Early Career Grant.
