Dr. Tzu-Wen Cross is an Assistant Professor of Nutrition Science and the Director of the Gnotobiotic Animal Facility at Purdue University. She earned her BS from Taipei Medical University in Taiwan, MS from the University of Missouri, and PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She completed postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Cardiovascular Research Center through the NIH T32 training program in translational cardiovascular science. Since earning her PhD in 2016, she has published 54 peer-reviewed articles on topics ranging from fatty acid metabolism to the impact of the gut microbiome on metabolic benefits of dietary fiber. Dr. Cross’s current research focuses on understanding the impacts of nutrition on the interplay between the gut microbiome and sex hormones, with the goal of promoting health and preventing disease. Her recent research also explores microbial metabolites of phytoestrogen and their effects on metabolic disorders and reproductive health in rodent models.
