Dr. Isaac Ergas is a Staff Scientist at the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research. His research focuses on diet, lifestyle and behavioral risk factors and their impact on cancer. He primarily works on studies related to breast and bladder cancers, where he tries to understand how diet at the nutrient, food and overall dietary pattern levels effect the mechanisms which ultimately impact cancer progression and survival.
Isaac earned his PhD from the University of California Berkeley School of Public Health, in Epidemiology. His dissertation examined the role of diet in a population of breast cancer survivors from the Pathways Study, a longitudinal prospective cohort of women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer between 2005 and 2013. He also holds a Masters of Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley and a Masters of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production from the University of Southern California, where he received a Sloan Foundation grant to make a short live action film about Dr. John Snow’s renowned epidemiological investigation of the Broad Street Pump (https://www.snowthemovie.com).
