Dr. Lawrence Mabasa is a Specialist Scientist at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Medical Physiology at Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, South Africa. He holds a PhD in Nutritional Physiology from North Dakota State University (NDSU), Fargo, USA, where his research focused on maternal nutrition and its impact on offspring health using rodent models.
Dr. Mabasa is an alumnus of the Fulbright Student Program, through which he earned his MS degree in Nutritional Physiology at NDSU. His postdoctoral research experience spans leading institutions including NDSU, the University of Cape Town, and the SAMRC.
With a strong commitment to research and capacity building, Dr. Mabasa has mentored and co-mentored numerous Honours, Master's, and PhD students. He has secured over $1 million in research funding from prestigious agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Northern Canola Growers Association, North Dakota Soybean Council, the U.S. Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program, and the South African National Research Foundation.
