Esther Nguyen completed her undergraduate degree in 2020 at the University of Washington School of Public Health in Food Systems, Nutrition, and Health, as well as the Foster of School of Business in Entrepreneurship, in Seattle, Washington. Following her graduation, she transitioned from an undergraduate research assistant position to a full time research coordinator position for a research study led by Drs. Jennifer Otten and Adam Drewnowski focusing on food insecurity and COVID-19 across Washington State. In late 2021, she switched to a clinical nutrition experience as a Dietetic Technician for Seattle Children’s Hospital for eight months. After, Esther became a Princeton in Asia Fellow and moved to Vientiane, Laos in 2022, where she worked as a Research Advisor for Population Services International for one year. Her research experience in Laos focused on family planning and women contraceptive methods in rural communities using Human Centered Design. After matriculating into JHU, she soon became involved in research with Drs. Keith West and Joel Gittelsohn, and traveled to Yogyakarta, Indonesia during her 2023-2024 winter break to conduct a qualitative research study examining primary school canteen environments. She completed a Registered Dietitian rotations within Johns Hopkins Hospital as a part of their MSPH-D program and graduated in May 2025 with her MSPH. As a part of her rotations, she spent her 8-week public health rotation/practicum in Vietnam with the National Institute of Nutrition focusing on a landscape analysis to understand the context for implementing an antenatal multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS) program in Vietnam. She plans to sit for the RD exam in June and plans to be an inpatient dietitian before applying to medical school. Her passions revolve around public health, global nutrition, micronutrients, maternal and neonatal health, and qualitative research methods. She hopes to involve all her passions in her future career as a Registered Dietitian and OBGYN. In her free time, Esther loves to partake in any outdoor activities (especially hiking and biking in WA), travel to new countries, practice yoga, cook, and throw/watch baseball with her partner (go Mariners!).
