Dr. Justin Ryder, Ph.D. currently serves as the Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Surgery at Lurie Children’s Hospital and is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. He is the past Chair of the Pediatric Section of the Obesity Society, the largest international organization of obesity scientists, and currently serves on the Clinical Care Committee. His research is focused on understanding biological mechanisms and outcomes related to treatment for pediatric obesity, the most common pediatric chronic disease, and its accompanying comorbidities. His NIH funded research spans the continuum of care with studies of lifestyle modification, obesity medications, and bariatric surgery, with a goal of examining underlying mechanisms and long-term outcome responses.
