Emma Cotter recently earned her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the University of Rhode Island, where she conducted undergraduate research focused on the influence of social media on young adults’ nutrition perceptions, dietary behaviors, and emotional responses to food-related content. Her work explores the intersection of digital media and nutrition science, contributing to a growing body of research aimed at understanding modern drivers of dietary decision-making. Emma was awarded a research grant to support her project. She also gained hands-on experience in clinical nutrition through her roles as a Diet Technician at South County Hospital and as a Teaching Assistant in URI’s Applied Nutrition Practicum. Emma will begin graduate studies in nutrition this fall, where she plans to continue exploring behavior-driven nutrition research and pursue a career that integrates education, research, and clinical practice.
