Ph.D. Candidate/Graduate Research Assistant
Auburn University
Adebowale Samuel Oyerinde is a Ph.D. candidate in Nutritional Science at Auburn University, with an anticipated graduation in July 2025. He holds a Graduate Certificate in Health Equity Science and a Master's degree in Clinical Biochemistry from Ekiti State University, Nigeria. With over eight years of research experience spanning clinical biochemistry, molecular biology, and nutritional science, Oyerinde has developed a strong foundation in biomarker discovery, chromatographic analysis (GC-MS, LC-MS), Western blotting, cell and tissue culture, and genomic assays.
Currently working under the mentorship of Dr. Geetha Thangiah, his research explores urinary volatile organic compounds (VOCs), oxidative stress, and inflammatory biomarkers in childhood obesity. His ongoing projects include investigations into Urinary VOCs as Non-Invasive Indicators of Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Childhood Obesity
Oyerinde is highly skilled in method development, sample preparation, and the operation of analytical instrumentation. His work has resulted in several peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as Scientific Reports, Antioxidants, and Frontiers in Oncology, and he has presented at major scientific conferences including the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
In addition to research, Oyerinde has significant leadership and service experience, having served on university committees and graduate student councils. He has also received numerous accolades, including the Kappa Omicron Nu Scholar Award and travel fellowships from Auburn University. Passionate about translational science, health equity, and mentorship, he aspires to advance global health through research in metabolic disease, nutrition, and molecular medicine.
