(EA03-18-25) Innovative Online Nutrition Education Curricula for Integration Into Undergraduate Medical Education

Objectives: To develop open-access nutrition education digital modules to address the gaps of nutrition education integration in medical school curricula

Methods: Faculty members from six medical schools in Michigan (MMNEC) collaborated to develop nutrition education curricula. We used the innovative ScholarRx Bricks digital learning platform to develop open-access nutrition education modules that can be easily integrated as an online resource for medical school curricula.  The clinical nutrition nutrition education topics were chosen based on topics that were identified as those that were not easily integrated into medical school curricula.

Results: We developed 3 open-access nutrition education modules that covered: Use of food labels, Social determinants of health: food security, and Recommended eating patterns and healhy eating counseling skills.  Each module includes achievable educational goals and objectives.  Each module can be completed in 15-20 minutes and each of the nutrition module topics that can provide a foundation for subsequent nutrition education

 

Conclusions: The open-access nutrition education ScholarRx Bricks modules are easily assessable and can help to address the gap of nutrition education integration in medical school curricula.  Using an online resource may be a beneficial format to provide nutrition education for medical students and may help to support their understanding of the relavence of incoporating nutrition into their future clinical practice.
