(P11-029-25) Efficacy of a Functional Food Supplement With Grape, Soy Protein, and Edamame as an Adjuvant Treatment in the Glycemic Control of Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
RAAS Nutritionals Santa Susana, California, United States
Objectives: To prove the efficacy of a functional food supplement containing grape product, soy protein concentrate, organic edamame powder, and soy isoflavones in the function of the kidney in patients with CKD.
Methods: This is a randomized controlled trial with 34 patients. Group 1 (11 patients) had baseline tests and only one control test, and Group 2 (10 patients) had baseline tests and more than one control tests. After signing an informed consent, every patient received and consumed a proprietary blend of soy protein powder, edamame protein powder, grape protein powder for 180 days. The experimental group (13 patients) didn’t take the functional food supplement.
Results: The eGFR in the experimental group was statistically different (p=.002) between the baseline and the final eGRF, being this > 60 mL/min/1.73m2 in all cases, but the comparison between the changes in the eGFR in the experimental group and the control group was 54 vs. 11 mL/min/1.73/m3 (p < .00001), being the final eGFR > 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 in all patients in the experimental group. The difference between the serum creatinine levels at the baseline moment and the end of the trial was also significantly reduced (p=.004).
Conclusions: The functional food supplement tested helped satisfactorily in the clinical control of patients with CKD.
